The Last of the Horse-drawn Carriages in NYC?

As part of a promise to animal rights activists, the mayor of New York City might be making it illegal for there to be horse-drawn carriages in the city. This tradition has been around for more than 100 years, so why would they choose to ban it now? Because the activists say that making horses pull people around is inhumane and unsafe. Horses being hit by taxis and collapsing in the streets are a few examples they use when talking about this problem.
