"Heart Attack on a Hook"

Unwary diners who consume the Big Catch Platter at Long John Silver's will be getting over two week's worth of trans fats in one meal (33 grams) as well as 19 grams of saturated fat, 1,320 calories, and about 3,700 milligrams of sodium. Thanks to these staggering statistics, the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has crowned this meal the "Worst Meal in America," and dubbed it "Heart Attack on a Hook."

The insane lionfish invasion

The lionfish invasion in the waters off North Carolina and Florida is getting serious. How serious? So serious that these pretty, frilly, venomous fish are eating 70% of the other fish in the areas where they are present. So serious that a recent Lionfish Spear Fishing Derby brought in over 1,000 dead lionfish, and it barely made a dent in the local population.

An un-analytical organization?

.

Debate ongoing as to whether Jack Zduriencik is mis-managing the M's roster.

.............

GLS says,

I thought [the blogs' take on Zdurienck] was pretty good. He always makes good points and his arguments are based on facts, so I always take him seriously. He's said before that the Mariners have become the least analytical organization in baseball when it comes to roster construction and I think the tone you hear is his immense frustration.

The 40-man is an issue. I expect a trade soon to clear out some spots. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they just release Gutierrez when he completes his current rehab.

Fair enough.  I didn't read the post.  I'll take your word for it, amigo - if it's frustration as opposed to the usual condescension, and the usual assumption that divergent opinions are based on a lack of intelligence ... well, glad to hear it.

I do appreciate your holding down the front for the other point of view.  Much more interesting to play tennis with a person than against a wall :- )

Series Review: Predator

As a child, you see movies and are instantly dazzled when they present you with something that you’ve never seen before.  The original Predator movie was one of these, much like other cult classics such as Alien and Robocop.  And while the alien was scary and looked amazing, the movie itself doesn’t quite hold up against the test of time.  While these films are fun for their stab at the aliens vs. humans action premise, in execution they leave much to be desired.  I am about to embark on a review that will likely make Predator fans very upset with me, so turn your eyes away if you can’t bare it.

Using canned salmon

I recently wrote about all the amazing health benefits of eating wild salmon, as well as the trouble I have in eating enough fish in general. I just don't feel very confident about my ability to cook fish without overcooking it, which takes a $10 slab of fish and turns it into a chunk of leathery woe. Cooking fish requires a light touch, and that is something that I frankly just do not have when it comes to cooking.

Emma Coburn is playing for keeps

After spending last summer in London participating in the 2012 Olympic Games, you figured maybe Emma Coburn would want a quiet summer. Though Colorado is known for skiing, summertime in Colorado is one of the most beautiful times to visit. Her hometown of Crested Butte isn’t too shabby to see in the warm weather either. Though this would suffice for some, the University of Colorado steepler has bigger fish to fry than catching rays at high altitude.
