Disney officially gives up hand-drawn animation

The struggle between hand-drawn animation and computer animation has been a long and difficult battle. Many people still prefer the look and feel of hand-drawn animation, and this classic style is what made Disney great in the first place. But the economies of computer animation, coupled with the time constraints of producing a major motion picture, have meant that hand-drawn animation is increasingly losing out to computer animation.

Voodoo Fest headliners announced

With Coachella in the books, it is now time to start thinking about some of the other major music festivals around the country. I'm a big believer in planning ahead, if at all possible, because tickets for these big festivals are often cheaper the earlier you buy them, and hotel rooms can almost always be found.

One of the best fall music festivals, without a doubt, is the Voodoo Music and Arts Experience in New Orleans. If you've ever been curious about this particular event, well, listen up: The lineup for the 2013 Voodoo Fest is outstanding!

NBA MVP candidates: Take I

With the NBA season quickly coming to a close, it is time to look forward to playoff season, drafts, free agency and of course, post season awards. While we can’t crown a champion until June, we can take a look the 2013 MVP candidates. While there is an obvious standout, that doesn't mean there is an obvious winner. With there never having been a consensus among judges about who the MVP is, debate is always welcome. This week, I’ll focus on the possible NBA MVP candidates, starting with Chris Paul.

"A Spy’s Guide to the Kennedy Assassination"

November 22, 1963 is a dark stain on American history. On this date, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy died at the hand of Lee Harvey Oswald. But Oswald's guilt has become shrouded in contrived theories of innocence practically since the day he was mortally wounded by Jack Ruby in the Dallas PD's underground parking garage.

Returning to their championship ways

After a month of madness, the NCAA tournaments for both the men and the women have come to a close. The women’s championship match on Tuesday marked the end of the NCAA tournament, and the 8th tournament title for the UConn Huskies. In a match that saw the top-seeded Huskies taking on the number five ranked Louisville Cardinals, most believed the Huskies would inevitably prevail. This was absolutely the case in the 90-63 whooping that occurred in New Orleans on Tuesday night.

Capps to the Rotation?

.

Dr. D wonders how much trouble he'd get in for adopting a Euro soccer style headline trend.  You know, "TOM BRADY TO SEAHAWKS?" and article text starts with "There may not be much to suggest this, but here's why I feel it could be a good idea."  Traffic that is disgusted with you is still traffic...

Actually our little joke might be forgiven by some, since James (speaking here as Red Sox brass) addresses the issue of:  does an org owe it to its players to deploy them as they wish to be deployed?

Go Bolts!

 ..................

Next week's Charger-Lions game is a tight matchup, with an early -2.5 point spread.  If the Chargers win that game, the Seahawks are practically in control of their destiny.

If the Chargers lose next week @ Detroit, the Seahawks have a second draw at the deck:  Atlanta finishing 9-7, with the NY Giants beating Dallas to send everybody to 9-7.  This is not farfetched by any means.

............

ESPN has a peachy keen "NFL Playoff Machine" that allows you to noodle around with different NFL ballgames, the next two weeks, and then see the playoff matchups at a glance.

Once you boot it up, you can click on Week 16 and Week 17 and then click the Seahawks' logo to grant them victories and a 9-7 record.  The playoff scenarios will set even before any of the other teams have played their games.  Interesting!

Try a few scenarios and you'll see that the Seahawks' chances are a lot stronger than you'd think.

.

=== Seahawks 9-7 ===

If you are a Mariners fan rubbernecking over through the Safeco LF stands over to Safeco, here's a primer.  Although the Seahawks reached the playoffs in 2010 with a 7-9 record, they need all 9 wins this year to have any chance.  The Packers and 49er's have clinched their own divisions, and the Saints almost have ... the two Wild Card teams right now are Detroit and Atlanta, and both have 9 wins already.
