Rivershack Tavern, Jefferson, Louisiana

Titled Rivershack Tavern because of its place right at the edge of the Mississippi River, this Jefferson gem is a just a stone’s throw from the bigger party city of New Orleans.  For those that want to get away from the chaos that is the city, this is a good alternative.  At its heart, Rivershack is a dive bar, but they accompany their drinks with some great food and are truly a step above the typical hole-in-the-wall.  While there, you can play some pool, throw some darts, watch the game or listen to some live music.  For a casual

Carousel Bar & Lounge

Located within the Motel Monteleone, The Carousel Bar and Lounge is a popular place for those in New Orleans that enjoy something a little different.  This bar actually revolves, hence the name Carousel, adding a whole new element to a night out drinking.  And with more than 60 years of operation behind it, this place has a long-standing tradition of being one of the city’s best.  With a regular cast of characters that changes all the time, you’ll no doubt meet someone interesting in

For a look at one of New Orleans’ better dive bars, take a trip to the French Quarter and spend an evening drinking at The Chart Room.  If customer reviews are to be believed, this is one of the only places worth drinking at in the Quarter, though I’m guessing that has something to do with the dirt cheap drinks.  Or it could have to do with the friendly bartenders and eclectic crowds that populate this drinking establishment.  Either way, for both locals wanting a relaxed place to drink and meet new people and tourists that want to see a more genuine piece of New Orleans

Fat Tuesday

Fat Tuesday is a New Orleans franchise that has spread out over the years and become so popular that they now have more than 50 locations.  One of these happens to be on the Las Vegas Strip and if you want a relaxed place to toss back a drink, this is a convenient option.  Of course, this bar’s claim to fame is their ability to make a dynamite daiquiri, so you might want to try at least one of these before you get started in too hard.  And you’ll find the place filled with both locals and tourists alike, so if you’re out looking

Judgment Time: Originals vs. Remakes - Round 4

Well, I’ve just about run out of remakes and reboots that I’ve seen both the originals and the newer versions of, so this will be my final round of ‘Originals vs. Remakes’ (for now).  This time around, it’s all bad.  Though some of these modern versions tried really hard to produce something noteworthy and a few even managed to come out as minor successes, in the end the first was always the greatest.  So without further ado, read on to receive my judgment.
