As we ramp up to Thanksgiving, it's time to start giving thought as to recipes for The Big Day. If you are lucky enough to just be bringing a side dish to Thanksgiving dinner, I highly recommend making cranberry sauce from scratch.
With only four dancers left in the competition, the tension has really ramped up among the moms and dancers. This week's theme was "Down the Rabbit Hole." (Meaning Alice in Wonderland, but I assume the phrase "Alice in Wonderland" is under copyright, so they had to use a lot of euphemisms). The skill was characterization, how well the dancers could project their characters.
Back in the 1960s and 1970s, Contact Paper was all the rage among crafters. You bought a giant roll of the stuff in a cute pattern (like orange daisies or brown owls - this being the 1960s and the 1970s after all) then looked around for places to use it.
If you have ever agonized over finding The Exact Right Buttons for something you have made, then maybe next time you should explore this option: make your own! I didn't even know this was possible until I read Orange Swan's recent blog post on the subject. (It's not that I had considered the thought and discarded it; I hadn't considered it at all.)
There's something in some people that cannot stand the thought of energy drinks. They are convinced energy drinks must be bad for you, so they put together alarmist infographics like this one, about the caffeine content in the most common energy drinks.
Problem being? It's not that much caffeine!
Obviously sweets and high-acid foods (like orange juice and Coke) are bad for your teeth. But what should you add to your diet if you want to boost your dental health?
1. Cheese
Cheese contains calcium, which is good for your teeth. But it also contains the milk protein casein, which can help improve the surface of your teeth and make them more resistant to cavities.
Granted, pumpkin spice everything is everywhere this time of year. But this is also a great time to explore all the possibilities of the lovely orange squash we know as the pumpkin.
I have already discussed the issue of making pumpkin things from scratch. You have to find the right kind of pumpkin, bake it for a long time, then scoop it out of the shell. At the end you're left with something which, in my opinion, is indistinguishable from canned pumpkin puree. So don't feel bad about cooking with canned pumpkin. You're saving yourself a lot of trouble!

Is it just me, or do you sometimes flip through Netflix streaming, searching for a movie to watch, and think "I've seen every movie ever made"? That was me all summer long. Sure, I hadn't seen some of the offerings, but I felt like I'd already seen the best ones offered. It's frustrating. Thank goodness for original offerings like Orange Is the New Black and House of Cards, right?
