'Spring Breakers' is out on DVD: Should you care?

It is extremely rare that I can't find at least some words to describe the way I feel about a film. Spring Breakers, however, has left me at a loss. I've been sitting here staring at this blank screen for quite a while now, wrestling with all sorts of different feelings about what I just saw, including hate, disgust, confusion and hefty helping of irritation.

Golden Corral video raises more questions than it answers

Over the holiday weekend, a Golden Corral employee posted a revolting video of raw meat sitting outside near the dumpsters behind a Golden Corral restaurant in Florida. The raw meat is buzzing with flies and glistening in the Florida sun.

In the video, the man claims that the meat has been set outside in order to hide it during a restaurant inspection. And that once the inspection is over, the meat will be brought back inside and served to the customers.

The insane lionfish invasion

The lionfish invasion in the waters off North Carolina and Florida is getting serious. How serious? So serious that these pretty, frilly, venomous fish are eating 70% of the other fish in the areas where they are present. So serious that a recent Lionfish Spear Fishing Derby brought in over 1,000 dead lionfish, and it barely made a dent in the local population.

Staggeringly huge yellowjacket nest discovered

Yellowjackets, a small species of predatory wasp, typically live in nests containing between 1,000 and 5,000 individual wasps. Imagine the surprise, then, when entomologist Jonathan Simkins was called in to deal with an unusually large yellowjacket nest in central Florida, and found a colossal nest that might have contained over a million yellowjackets.

"POTD jr." -- Michael Saunders (Spectator)

Gotta chime in here regarding one of our original favorites, Michael Saunders.

It wasn't that long ago that everyone in the room was shouting "Wells" and I was off in my little corner saying "Saunders."  Well, look who's DFA'd now, and who's on their way to the All-Star Game.  So I think I have some room to speak on this one.

The whole thing with Saunders starts with his bio.

First, imagine Nick Franklin's teen life.  Sunny Orlando.  Ballpark and cages all day, every day, year-round.  Well-manicured infields.  Select teams with real coaches.

Weekly What’s Happening Wednesday: Will Smith’s view on punishment

The more I hear about Will Smith, the more I adore him as a parent. Sure, he’s a wonderful underrated actor (Seven Pounds really didn't get the recognition it deserved) and a very handsome man, but he’s also always defending the choices of his children. This quote from him about how he does not punish his children makes me admire him even more.

Florida’s Coral Castle

Formerly known as RockGatePark, CoralCastle in Homestead, Florida is one of the 20th century’s most interesting and puzzling constructions.  It is a collection of buildings and carved monuments built by one man without any of the technological building machines that we possess today.  Though it is a marvelous place to see, it is perhaps better known for the many legends that surround its construction.
