App provides a monthly book of memories mailed right to your door

I don't often get excited about an app, but when I recently found out about Groove Book, I could barely contain myself. I take a lot of photos with my iPhone. A whole lot. I'm not embarrassed only slightly embarrassed to admit that during the two years since I've had an iPhone, I've taken about 4,000 photos. I've taken most of those since we had our son, but I have more than a few of our dog, cats, scenery, friends, family, gifts and...you get the idea. Do you know how many of those I've printed out? Less than 300.

Hawaiian creature comfort and the Humane Society

No matter what luxury accommodations or loving caregiver you arrange for your dog while on vacation, there’s always one suffering party – you! Picture lying on a beach in Maui and longing for your pet. It can be agonizing, but the Maui Humane Society (MHS) has a pair of creative ways to ease the pain.

“We have visitors stop by our shelter on a daily basis, just wanting to be around the animals,” says Jocelyn Bouchard, CEO of the Maui Humane Society. “Until now, we didn’t have any organized way for them to get involved here, unless they wanted to adopt a pet."

Your eTextbook knows if you studied or not

Homework and studying are the stuff of legends. Almost everyone moans when they find out they have to do it, and feel great when it's finished. There are elaborate networks of student cheating, elaborate excuses of how the dog ate it or the computer deleted it and even the occasional diatribe against the worth of homework to try and get out of it. Teachers spend a ton of time grading it and students spend twice that avoiding it. Some education reformers have tried to eliminate it, while others have focused on better after-school programs to help students do it well.

The Cleveland Show, "Who Done Did It?"

It seems like American Dad has been faltering in recent seasons, leaving The Cleveland Show to take the title of "Best Seth MacFarlane Show." But this was resoundingly not the case last night, with a mystery-based episode that was nothing but weak sauce. As if aware of this fact, FOX shunted the episode to the final slot of the night, putting a re-run in the show's usual time slot.

Travel stress relief with man’s best friend

Waiting to get through customs at LAX can be exhausting, humbling and a patience rending endurance test for everyone involved. Once off the plane, travelers are led through a warren of corridors toward customs. Inside the main hall, stanchions siphon off passengers into neat rows according to their national status. For those of us returning to the US, it’s tiring enough but for those studying our passports, checking our gaze and photo match, it’s a daily marathon.

Five animated shows for kids (that adults like, too)

Animation isn't just for kids anymore, as any number of vapid local news stories have happily chirped over the years. But even though grown-ups have plenty of animated fare aimed at an older, more experienced audience, there are a lot of kids' shows that are popular with the over-18 set, as well. As with Young Adult fiction (like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games), a good story is a good story, regardless of its intended target audience.

Stories to teach kids the value of a dollar

Teaching kids about money doesn't have to be boring. A lifetime of good spending habits starts with parents instilling in their children that earning money, spending wisely and saving are the best ways to manage money. These three books are charming and engaging, ideal for tackling a tough topic in easy-to-understand (and funny) lessons.
