Colorado passes civil unions

As a proud Coloradan, I’m happy to announce that this past week, Colorado passed a law allowing civil unions between same-sex couples. Having passed hateful legislations in the 90s that allowed employers to discriminate based on personal choices, traits and characterizes, this marks a huge push for equality in Colorado. This, along with the passing of a bill that legalized marijuana, is a huge push for our swing state to become a permanent blue.

Monitoring brains wirelessly

Thanks to the efforts of a group of scientists and researchers at the Brown Institute of Brain Science in Providence, Rhode Island, the human race has moved one more step forward in creating a machine capable of reading and transmitting the signals from our brain.  The latest wireless brain sensors are, as the scientists put it, kind of like a cell phone that transmits brain waves instead of vocal information.  Although they’re still in animal trials, if they could be made to fit human beings they could help with many things, particularly in letting people suffering from paralysis interact

Medical marijuana up in smoke?

Attitudes toward marijuana use in the U.S. have been shifting for generations. Since it blew its way into the fringes in the 1960s, it has drifted into the crevices and lungs of mainstream culture. It's not uncommon today to see or hear marijuana references on prime time television or mainstream music. In fact, 18 states and the District of Columbia legally allow medical marijuana use.
