Its starting to look like Z is going to settle for a lesser 1B. I think he'll definetly get one more bat, possibly two if hes not sold on Saunders. Who knows though, this guy is completely unpredictable.

I'm not completely opposed to the idea of a team with a 97 OPS+ and 114 ERA+ either though. :-)

97 and 114 works for me.  Worked for a couple of 90's Braves teams, too... and what, all of the Angels division winners?

I think you're really going to like this team next year Doc.. I know offense is more your personal taste, but when you actually see Felix-Lee back to back behind this defense I think your tune might change. :-)

A 96-100 OPS+ would be plenty enough with this pitching+defense.

The only kinda game I like more than a 14-2 rout by the Big Red Machine, is a 1-0 (ok, 5-0) smoking laid on the division rivals by Randy Johnson in game 163.

Am definitely capable of enjoying the sight of a great pitching staff escorting the arrogant ex-division champs to the guillotine.  :- )

............

As James says, the fabric of baseball's history is woven by the HOF starting pitchers ... watching two perform at that level, one right and one left, will provide many gloatiffic postgames for SSI...

Interesting that in the list above, the ratio of "brought in" versus "developed" is very, very heavily weighted toward developed.  I cannot explain the reality totally - but Philly "tried" to purchase their big bat, (Thome), and kept NOT making the post-season.  They finally dumped Thome for their internally developed Ryan Howard and suddenly instead of winning 86 every year, they're wrinning 89-93, winning the division, and getting discount frequent-World-Series Miles.

Z is having to do this all with pricey external grabs.  Am sure he's the first one chipping his teeth over how much easier it would be with a Fielder, a Braun and a Weeks.

Keep hittin' this heavy bag San-Man... as a Braves fan, you should know how divisions are won...
