Smoak, two pitchers, and a position player?
More fun than Thursday afternoon in the Carribbean. Well, okay, but still.
.............
Despite my throwaway line about 1 Montero over 50 Smoaks, Smoak is 80-90% of Montero and if the secondary players blow away the Yankees', yes you take the Ranger package.

=== Zach McAllister, 4SP ===
Think Doug Fister. This is jemanji-mobile stuff, so don't hold me to it. But you get the idea. Real good chance to provide a workmanlike #4. Workmanlike #4's don't change your org, but as a backup piece to Jesus Montero, sure.
.
=== David Adams, 2B ===
I'm very lukewarm. See him topping out as a Kansas City Royals starter... You can't quibble with the #3 in a Montero package but the point is, we don't blame Capt Jack for trying to reconfig away from Adams.
Just FWIW.
.
=== Three Rangers after Smoak ===
It would be too good to be true for any of them to be Scheppers ... wouldn't it? wouldn't it?
But as savvy cyber-Seattlers are aware, the Rangers are just loaded, and if the M's send the bankruptcy kids some cash, who knows but that the sweetness from Tex doesn't overwhelm even a Montero deal...
Capt Jack likes Smoak in Safeco and this factor could jussssssssssst barely pull Smoak close to even with the righty catcher Montero anyway...
.
=== I Unsay It ===
Also, in my first post, I opined that when the Yanks say Montero, you stop chiseling and you work it out.
Capt Jack, arrrrrrrrrrr, has no pity and no remorse. Can you not see this guy with an eye patch at the helm of the Black Pearl?

=== Edit to Add ===
HQ has Beavan as a 7B pitcher, meaning that he'll probably land as a #4 starter ... very comparable in value to Zach McAllister and for many of the same reasons.
88-91 fastball, excellent command of FB and SL, nice polish and makeup as a Capt Jack type is wont to be, good deception, is the report. A Billy Beane-type saber pitcher in the sense that he's more about performance than tools.
The other two guys aren't in the Tex preseason top-15, and aren't guys that fans knew about before the trade. As you know, this doesn't mean they are or aren't good picks. Be fun to pick them apart, but not as fun as watching Russ Branyan hit his HR's from DH next week.
