I've got to agree here on all points...

I was never high on Cedeno at all despite his flukish BABIP driven AAA numbers. Hes an easy cut.

I don't want to get too giddy about the Chavez injury...but hey, if gets Saunders up here its a good thing for the long-term outlook of the club.

Griffey just popped a mid 90s outside fastball into the seats so he moves back into the regular lineup for now to see if he can keep this up. I'm not even opposed to throwing him in LF and Carp at DH for now. Do the Weaver lineup, get the bats going, and then throw your regular lineup back out there again once the bats come alive.

The problem I have with this Mariner roster...there's no good solution to some of the line-up issues.

Calling up Saunders leaves Carp without a job...Griffey is just starting to heat up and he has to play...there's no need for him in left if Saunders is up so he plugs the DH slot.  Calling up Clement doesn't help unless he can catch, which he can't.

I think step one is choosing either Carp or Saunders and platooning them with Balentien.  Griffey is my starting DH and if he platoons with anyone it is certainly NOT Mike Sweeney, who needs to be DFA'd immediately.  Call up Chris Shelton...maybe he'll provide a spark against the lefties.  Moving Branyan to third would be a spectacularly stupid thing to do right now...Beltre is still one of our better hitters and our only credible defender on the infield, and despite protestations to the contrary, it is not a flyball rotation...only Vargas and Washburn are flyball guys.  Morrow is neutral once his command improves and Felix and Bedard are groundball pitchers.  Now if Olson takes Morrow's rotation spot once Bedard returns...then we need to worry more about the outfield than the infield. :)

My roster, as of today, would be:

C) Rob Johnson (like it or not, he's helping the pitching staff a LOT)
1B) Russell Branyan
2B) Jose Lopez (after his berievement period...I hope he will be OK)
3B) Adrian Beltre
SS) Cesar Izturis (call the Orioles and offer them some pittance...I don't honestly care what)
LF) Mike Carp
CF) Franklin Gutierrez
RF) Ichiro Suzuki
DH) Ken Griffey Jr.

OF4) Wlad Balentien
MIF) Oswaldo Navarro (yes, really...best defensive middle infielder in the system)
BC) Jeff Clement if he can do it at all, Adam Moore otherwise
BAT) Chris Shelton
GLOVE) Jerry Owens

SP1) Felix Hernandez
SP2) Erik Bedard / Garrett Olson til he gets back
SP3) Jarrod Washburn
SP4) Brandon Morrow
SP5) Jason Vargas

CL) David Aardsma
SUR) Mark Lowe
SUL) Garrett Olson / Ryan Rowland-Smith til Bedard gets back
MR) Sean White
MR) Miguel Batista
MR) Chris Jakubauskas

This is not a team in dire need of a 7-man bullpen despite the lack of comfort Wok expresses with the concept.  This is a team in need of moveable parts and reliever swith rubber arms (*cough* Jak/Batista/Olson *cough*).

Seriously.  And after glancing at Woodward the last game (and his carreer .675 mlb OPS, which would place him sixth on the entire team right now incidentally) I think that the answer has been right under our nose this whole time.  I would install Mike Morse and Woodward in a platooning situation at SS for the rest of the year, defense be darned.  It isn't like Morse would be much worse than Yuni defensively anyways, and Woodward is an upgrade with the glove AND the bat.

Also don't forget that the Heilman trade was for OLSEN and Cedeno, NOT Cedeno and Olsen, that order is important.  Cedeno was the throw in NOT Olsen!  And while you may not be super high on Olsen, some people are :)  I see Olsen as a prime candidate to pull a good couple of #3 like seasons out of his hat as soon as he figures out how to throw his fastball with a little more control.  Lefties who throw 90/91 with a plus change and a plus slider do NOT grow on trees.  He IS what we were hoping RRS could be, that is if RRS hadn't misplace a mph or 5 ;)

I HATE to see guys get hurt, seriously that just sucks, especially when it is because of poor on field communication.  It may be unfair, and it may not be his fault, but this is just one more black mark against Yuni.  Maybe it was Endy's fault for not pulling up, but since I already don't care for Yuni it is easy for me to lay blame at his feet on this one.  Since Carp is already here, and since Saunders has only just gotten his first sip of AAA coffee and is currently in a slump I platoon Griff, Wlad and Carp in a LF/DH trio, leaving Sweeny out in the cold most of the time.  He can stay on the team, but the other three players will be getting the bulk of the playing time.  Both Carp and Griff need some time against lefties.  Carp to see if he can hit mlb lefties (no reason to just assume he can't) and Griff to prove that he can still hit lefties.

Morse and Woodward are both right handed.  So I'm lost as to how they could be platoon buddies.

They're also both horribly ill-equipped to play short at this point in their careers...they might actually be worse than Yuni.

I wouldn't mind seeing Woodward get some of the SS PT, but I really think we should be looking for someone who can add 3-4 wins in the field alone...a great defensive shortstop.

I simply meant that they should split time.  At least until one of them really took over the reigns at SS.

Anyways I thought Cedeno WAS a great SS or did you like the Pokey Reese experiment better?  Forget uber d if they can't at least OPS 650 then they are no good to any one Omar or not!

Woodward certainly brouhgt his htting shoes with him from Tacoma what is he 5 for 8 getting on base or something?

And he would definitely be an upgrade defensively over YuBet.  Yeah he wouldn't be all world there but he would be at least average and if he brought a semi useful bat to the party as well then he would be a big upgrade over the black hole we currently have playing SS (his double tonight being the exception not the norm :) )

As for Morse sure his defense it cruddy but it would be no worse than Yuni's and he probably wouldn't be running into any out fielders :)  He offese would certainly be a BIG upgrade over Yuni's.

So like I said if this was my team to run Cedeno would be history and Mike and Chris would battle it out for starting SS and utility man.

P.S.  Doc the stupid Captcha thing says I type it in wrong all the time even though I am sure I am typing it in correctly, either I REALLY suck at those things or there is a bug in the system.
